I have just spent the last two days fitting a PX engine to replace the LML reed valve engine as the casings were absolutely knackered. The set up of the PX engine is
DR180 Barrel, 26mm PHBH carb, Standard Crank, Pinasco Flytech Staor and Gianelli Exhaust. I have used this set up on my other scooter, except the Pinasco Flytech Stator and has been more or less bulletproof.
Now started the scooter and started second kick, left to run for about 5min and no problems, set the carburettor up to sit on idle. took it round the block to go through the gears and no problems. Fitted battery and side panels and generally tidy up bits and pieces. Decide to ride it back to my own house and yet again it started to rev its hazels off, due to experience pointed it at a hedge in case the same happened again, luckily I managed to stall the engine and pushed the fckr home. What the hell is going on, can this possibly be about the stator or again have I just got another air leak.
Crash Bang Wallop, Nightmare PART 2
sounds like the nut behind the handlebars is the cause.

Kick the scoot off and leave it idling, spray some easy start or brake cleaner around the areas where an air leak is possible. If the engine rev's change you've found your air leak. Obviously keep the spray away from the air intake. Good luck !!
put a standard carb and flywheel/stator on , stick a 110 main jet in it , see how it runs. that way you can start to narrow it down. a 24mm SI carb is big enough on a DR180 (I like these cheap kits) and you can borrow a standard stator/flywheel off a mate if you've got any.

he is right again. Cant use a standard carb as the engine is in a GS150 frame. I think the fuel starvation may be the answer, on the other scooters i have built, I used a fast flow fuel tap. On this one i have kept the original tap and it sits slightly lower than the fast flow tap. Both times the engine has revved its nuts of I have travelled up hill and therefore probably the carb has not received enough fuel. Will check again for air leaks and change the fuel tap and hope to fck it sorts the problem. Pictures of the engine and scooter are in my other thread Vespa Winter Project. The reason for this set up is, that you do not need to butcher a GS frame to get the engine in.
yes I did. put the carb on without the box to try it . just make a bracket up to hold the cable , only a temporary measure to find if its the carb or not. that flytech thingry seems a bit suss as well. just go back to simple stuff to eliminate things. keep us posted and we will see if we can get round your problem.sean brady scooters wrote:lol,i,m sure that golden eye really didnt mean to suggest that you havnt got any mates
