Two weeks ago I took the frame to the painters. Yesterday I went to see how he was doing. He reckons it will be about two weeks.

Cheers, I'll have a look.GLscoot wrote:There is a good 2 page spread in Scooterist this month with detailed pictures of the original. Well worth a look.
Progress is painfully slow at the moment but I've just collected the newly stripped and polished master cylinder.

Deep joy......
Apparently those crazy Iranians made the gearbox out of cheese (or was it yellow cake) and it needs another one.

Time marches on but progress remains sluggish. At least the engine is now safely back in my shed having been rebuilt by Diablo using a Harry Barlow top end.
The painter continues to tell me that it will be ready "in the next few days" despite having been saying that for nearly two months now. I do at least know that it's been filled and primed.
Baby steps but I'm well impressed with how the handlebar clamp came out. Basically I hacksawed off the headlight and then gave what was left to GS polishing in Hoo. He had to shape what was left and add weld to build up the surface at the front.
This is what came back:

I sear this project is cursed!
The frame is ready for collection at last. Off I go to see it and its the wrong colour!

Its supposed to look like this!

After a moment of despair two things occured to me: A) that actually its quite a nice colour (probably nicer than the green) and B) Since its a total BITSA using the wrong frame and a modern engine and a hydraulic brake, slavishly copying the colour may have been a bit naff.
I'll keep telling myself that anyway!
Keep smiling, worse things happen at sea!

The painter is a tw@7, but I like the silver better anyway.
You know that green is an unlucky colour for transport so perhaps this is your lucky day.
