I finished my winter project around two weeks ago, covered about 4 miles running in, electrics giving me problems. Managed to get the lights and brake light to work after many hours fanning about. Decided to take it for a test run, hoping I could use it for work tomorrow, running in the new piston and crank.
LML125 Engine with
RD250 Reed Valve and Manifold Block.
28mm PHBH Carburettor
60mm Crank, 1.5mm Spacer and tested for Squish, all seems ok.
Polini 180 Barrel & Piston
Cosa Clutch
Gianelli Exhaust
PInasco Flytech Stator
Now got to the end of my road and it started to whine/rev like mad, tried to stall it as I have no kill switch, was not happening. Managed to get it into neutral and started free wheeling back down the street. Then it jump started itself and went like fk, managed to steer it into the drive heading for my neighbours van, pulling wheelies, could not stop the thing until I came of it. No damage done and no one witnessed the occasion, thankfully as most of them are bikers. Seriously whats all that about.

I remember a similar incident when i bumped off a newly built Rally 200. Started first bump and took off like a rocket before i could jump on. I was holding the handle bars but the inertia was causing me to wind the throttle back even more......managed a "controlled crash" with little damage.

On inspection the throttle cable outer had stuck on the cable adjuster and was holding the throttle 1/2 open.......so just check the throttle is working correctly might be a simple fix...

That has been mentioned, but I think the throttle was ok. But hey, I was just wanting the scooter back in the house before anyone saw me, so did not inspect any part of it apart from the knackered gear cables.
Not been to the pub yet, so don't know if anyone saw what happened. Guarantee that's where I will find out. Not by neighbours rushing out to find if I'm ok, they'll be rushing up to the pub to tell everyone.

Engine casings completely fkd. There is a crack all the way from the clutch to the flywheel with around three or four more coming of the main one. I think this might be my fault, it looks like I did not tighten the cruciform onto the gear selector rod properly. Either that or there was a fracture in the casing already. What a bloody mess. This project is on the back burner for now.

That really is a pain. After all that work you must be gutted. The joy of scooters.

It's cheap because it's in india. i don't know about LML casing quality ,but i'd be dubious of ordering direct from india, probably be a long wait if nothing else.

You can get new vespa casings from sip for 3-400 quid ,or why not pick some 2nd hand up from a parts fair or ad.
