I went into a large recessed manhole cover yesterday and bottomed out the exhaust as a result, Its a JL3 on an avanti and the impact bent the downpipe backward and warped the manifold stub. I have a new stub on the way but does anyone have any tips on reshaping the pipe itself? will heat and elbow grease do? or do I contact professionals ?

Go on YouTube and be amazed.....I was.

several different methods ranging from packing it with water and leaving it in the freezer to Blocking the ends up and filling with compressed air (bit of heat helps~).

After watching the compressed air method i googled it and found several kits that are available to do this.

Oh yeah....don't be put off by some of the YouTube ones that go wrong, explosions and all that.......

Ah....in that case pack the tube with dry sand, absolutely no moisture (kiln dried), block ends up and use heat. The sand will help to stop the tube "wrinkling" when being bent.
