Ok, started up the t5 last night as its been a while. First thing i noticed on tick over in there is a hell of a clicking/gringing noise (hard to describe). I've checked all the obvious stuff and took the cowling off the eliminate that catching on the flywheel. I know these bearings are prone to going.

Can some one point me in the direction of some instructions on replacing the bearing, I am led to believe it is fairly straight forward and can be done with the engine still in the frame.

Best thing you can do is buy the sausage dvd ,does everything in real time and makes any work on the engine a doddle

You can do it with the block in the bike as you only need the flywheel side casing off

this should help

Cheers, Gaz. A mates also talked me through the job. It doesnt sound to hard to be fair.

Since i will have to take the stator off, what is the timing set to on a standard T5?

Timing on a stock T5 is 16 Degrees but just mark the stator/casing before you take it off

The casings and stator have marks on them to line up

i have never had any trouble setting up a standard vespa by lining up the marks

change the seal aswell while the casing off

just my opinion but I rather doubt that just the flywheel bearing is the prob here ,but without hearing it its hard to say ..
most nasty noises from vespas eminate from clutch or cush drives ,but it could be any number of things tbh.
and seeing as you have to split it anyways to even do the flywheel bearing ,it seems a shame to not just check and re build it all whilst its split .
you will be gutted if you just change the flywheel bearing and afterwards find its just the same .

The last time I rode it, I pulled the clutch in and it felt like the cable had snapped or the reunion had slipped. Now, no matter how much adjustment I put on to the lever the clutch doesn't engage. So it just snaps into gear. I thought 're adjusting the cable would sort the problem, but it is obviously something more serious.

The onky two things I can think of is a flared basket or a problem with the plunger.

I will have to sort this first, but what could be causing a noise in the clutch housing? I kind of need to sort this asap as I was hoping to make it to Scarborough on this scooter.

Cheers

Does the kickstart engage when you try and turn the scooter over as it sounds like your clutch corks are stuck to the plates or worn. I think if the flywheel bearing was that bad the woodruff key would have sheared off. Start with the clutch, change the corks and check the plates are not warped by placeing them on a glass table, if there warped change them too. None of these parts are expensive and leave the cork plates in gear oil over night before you fit them. This job can also be done with the engine still in the frame, but be very careful when removing the clutch, the woodruff key does not fall into the engine.
Its worth buying, seals, corks, plates, clutch nut, flywheel nut and cable inners. i always have these as spares and more. The DVD by Sausage is a must, it will save you time and money.

I would also buy clutch plunger and pressure plate and have them as spares. unless you live next door to a scooter shop.
