Vespa rally 200 suddenly not well
Filled up from empty after laying it up for a couple of months last week and it fired up and ran fine ,sat ticking over steady for ages. Had a bit of a petrol leak and exhaust was full of fuel so new float needle and gaskets on carb, went to start it today and it will only run on choke and feathery at that then if choke pushed in revs out and dies. Have had tap off and checked, checked valve seal, changed carb parts and changed carb, checked head torque, still no joy ... Any thoughts? Sudden oil seal failure? Which would be a bit weird as I'd expect symptoms first

Drain gear oil: Petrol in it?
Only had the fill plug off to see if it pissed out but good point I'll drop the oil tomorrow and get sniffing.
blocked pilot jet?
Cheers, but already tried it and a different carb too
Did the block the gearbox breather test and 2 out of 3 times it brought the revs down when they went up out of control, but then it settled down anyway and sat ticking over happily for ages
Dropped the oil ,was just under 200 ml and i'm sure it smelt petroly ,i even took it in to the mrs while she was cooking and made her do a blind smell test and she said petrol
Had the carb and box on the surface plate and emery paper with a bit of engineers blue, no high spots on carb so i don't suppose that's warped :/
Stripped the engine down and popped the main seal out ,it looked ok but there you go.
Next thrilling installment when i've got it up and running again
