^... phew, I thought maybe it was just me that had missed the point
... but it does help to know that you (Eden) are just as dumb as me, which I should have guessed as we both spend far too much time on Lambrettas and Lambretta forums

I suspect he's just joshing and making the point that it's physically challenging to be able to see the rear lamp filaments whilst operating the brake unless you are excessively tall or wear hight compensating footware. Personally, I'd use a mirror or get someone else to push the brake

No offence taken! Yanker does contribute well and being a keen tuner, he is much like the rest of us. Indeed, talks scooters and make the odd strange comment.... that makes him just like the rest of us!

I always got someone else to check the bulb or press the brake while I fiddle with the wires. But it is actually quite possible (at 5' 10") to carry out: Had never realised and always asked for assistance! DOH.
Flipping 'ek feel about 3' 8" tall now what with my keyboard bungling skills on top of that
Will use a mirror in future, and no, not the one in the make-up bag next to my garage 'stillies'......
Sorry for the incontinence - no offence meant
