What the others said-check/change the ramp position.
How did you know it wouldn't go past the bump stop if it wasn't on the splines?
That's not going anywhere...

I see whqt you meqn but didnt explain myself very well! I left the kickstart on the splines but pulled it out far enough that it would clear the bumpstop, if that makes sense.

may be crown wheel has excessive play on the bush/bearing...... oil thick when cold, no rattle,...... oil thins when hot, rattle rattle rattle! pull clutch in , straightens up crownwheel, no rattle. slip into gear at low revs, nice and crisp... give it a fistfull in 3rd, jumps out of gear...... does this sound like your problem?

hi golden eye, i'd considered the crown wheel previously and thought about oil thinning when hot, with regards to the crownwheel when it was put back together the guy who did it for me had to take a bit off the back of the crownwheel as it didnt spin freely on the bronze bush (hope that makes sense) there was a little play but not excessive! also ive never had problems with it jumoing out of gear at all no matter what the revs. i have found that if i hold the clutch in for a second or so and then change up at high revs it slots stright in, but if i shift into gear to quickly this is when it crunches a bit but im thinking it could be the cable or something. im still thinking that it may be the kick start plunger on first gear but i will be putting new clutch plates in again beginning of august so will check it then! only thing is id like to do the endplate conversion but not sure if im confident in carrying it out, so i'll see what happens come august! least if i balls it up people will be down for the scooter rally and im sure i can get someone to sort it out for a crate of beer
