Crankshaft/Mag housing rubbing

Just started my engine rebuild on my gp150 casing, new mag housing (other was routed) new bearings, seals & fitting a Meceur crank, only part not replaced is the drive side oil seal plate, everything has gone together fine until final tightening of the mag housing, crank won't spin, slacken of the nuts & is fine......... doubling up on the mag gasket may give me more clearance. Only other thing I can think of is the drive side oil seal plate screws need a tweak, but they were torqued to spec & don't want to strip the threads....advice?

Did thedrive side oil seal go in ok with the MEC crank there were some issues with early MEC cranks having a high/sharp step on the drive side of the crank

Seemed to, this crank was bought fairly recently......going to put the old routed mag on tomorrow to see if it's a difference in the housing as a quick measure seems to indicate that the new one has more height :/ if that's the case, I really am stumped as what to do

I had exactly the same problem on my engine build yesterday. Indian Li 150 case, new mag flange, new steel seal retaining plate, all new seals and bearings and a Mec Eur crank. All turning fine until 3 mag flange nuts tightened. Thge crank was fully home so I was a bit stumped as I'd never come across this before :? Then I remembered seeing different thickness gaskets being offered somewhere, had a rumage through the odd gaskets I had laying around form previous builds and found one that was a bit thicker. Puyt that on and problem sorted. I think it might have been MB Developments where I saw the different thickness gaskets but 2 thin ones will probably be fine, plenty of grease on the gasket and around the boss of the flange. Don't worry too much if the crank is a bit stiff to turn (so long as it isn't scraping) as the seals will be a bit 'grippy' until its bedded in.

Thanks for the reply...was thinking along these lines myself & have ordered two new gaskets to give it a bit extra clearance.

I'm not a big fan of two gaskets as they can fail,far better to use the thick 1mm MB ones or machine a mm off the mag face.

Point taken...thanks for the advice....have ordered a gasket set from MB .5/1.0/1.5 plus new drive side plate, screws & seal
