Great thread can't wait for more updates

Spare wheel holder set up is absolute quality any ideas on putting them into production ?

Will you be doing a separate thread for the Jet200 entitled Frankenserveta's bride [SMILING FACE WITH OPEN MOUTH AND SMILING EYES]

Pull your finger out man and do some more.
I can see this being a popular thread.

Are you going to leave the toolbox lid unpainted?

Haha! Yeah, the Jet200 is my personal opus. I swear I'll be getting buried with that scoot! So yeah, build thread on that in another year or 2-ish, 3-ish or 4-ish? :D

No plans to put any of this into production, the whole point of this is to hopefully share some ideas so other people can use them or make them better. Granted, if somebody else starts selling them; well that would be sleazy to say the least...

Anyway, thanks everyone for the encouragement! I'm off of work all week with nothing to do but build a Lambretta so updates might actually come pretty quick and taper off next week as I resume my day job and start sourcing any remaining parts.

Another picture heavy post but I try to explain everything I've done so other people can use the info if they'd like.

I will be running and old wipac spot lamp on the legshield so I figured I could hide the ugly bolt and wiring with an oil bottle holder that would also provide me with...oil.

Anyway, I took the basic idea from this:
http://www.mitolambretta.com/product_in ... cts_id=174

Not wanting to limit myself to having to refill the same bottle or can over and over, I decided that mine should house normal sized bottles and different shapes just in case I change brands or something later on.

So here's a couple of different shaped bottles I had on hand and some 1" stock I had laying around that I will use to make the frame up.

Image

I had originally thought a belt would be cool be it would also be a pain to unbuckle so I decided I should go buy some long springs instead. From there I had originally thought I should hard mount the springs on either side of the bottle and be able to slip the bottle in and out as needed.

After thinking about that, I realized that there would be no good way to guide the bottle under the springs and it might be a hassle so I came up with a buckle design and made a very scientific drawing. (this is to scale)

Image

So once I had the buckle "blueprint", I set to work on the frame. I don't have a bending brake so all bends are done in my bench vice using a hammer. I made up the rear bracket and the left side. I also made a brace for between the legs as I have a tendency to overbuild stuff to prevent failure.

When framing something like this up, I make a lot of different jigs. I usually reuse jigs from other projects and just add the holes or whatever I need to attach parts so I can square everything up.

Image

Not every jig has enough attachment points so I can end up with a sea of clamps holding everything in place.

Image

Here you can see the first weld I did along with the rear bracket and some 20 gauge I had originally intended to be a backer but decided in the end it really didn't need one.

Image

I went ahead and made up my latch along with everything else and sanded it to remove any tooling marks from my vice or whacking it with a hammer and what not.

And here it is with some Amsoil Interceptor in it which is my current choice for oil.

I tried to capture some pictures of the finished latch in action. I really surprised myself with this one, it worked without any fettling and looks exactly like the highly technical blueprint I had to work from.

Here's one last shot of a different more conventional shaped bottle fitted in it.

Overall I am extremely pleased with the final result. I think the springs add a bit more character to the feel I am trying to capture with this particular scooter build.

Thanks! I have been lurking for years but things are slow in the US forums as of late so I need to talk more scooters with more people!

Here's a close up of the clasp. This should give everyone an idea of how it works:
