Ok I've got several decent old 6 volt battery stators (Ducati sx/gp type) and I run a set on my road going lammy and it has giving me stirling service, now the fly in the ointment is the lights, they're well a bit s**t really... don't want to go the electronic route as that seems a right bloody nightmare with quality and reliability so I want to stick to the old rizzla setters! ;) whats the deal with converting a 6volt stator to a 12 stator so I can finally navigate the pot-holes in the dark? ta machey! :)

You could make a 12v full DC system using two of the stators. Remove the battery charging coils on one of them and fit the lighting coils of another in their place. Wire in parallel with the original 2 and add a podtronics type reg/reg.
Never had a breakdown on a properly maintained points system........

.......Or if you don't want to mod the stator, and don't mind AC lights, use a PX type reg reg/rec with a battery for horn/brake etc.

Or this, which sounds like the simplest of all.

There a bit of a question about if the DC version works at all, I know the AC version is all good after doing a similar conversion on my old P150X years ago. Yeah points are the way forward, if I had a rusty old penny for every thread/comment regarding dodgy/expensive/awkward/annoying electronic kits- my local scrappy would love me! oh that and I'm a tight f@@ker as well. I understand that on tuned machines electronic is a bit of a must but on standard and mildly tuned stuff- a decent set of double spring GP points and re-magged flywheel with give you a reliable, cheap set-up, the only downside as previously mentioned is the s**t lights.

Er yeah cheers Tony... maybe not the most practical of solutions but thanks all the same. I see you're getting stuck into the GP build and experiencing the usual Lambretta problems hahaha! yep prepare to fettle and f@@k about with expensive bits of metal in the quest for a tad more power from your italian shopping bike :D
