Anyone know for sure when the chrome ring was phased out for the TV range?

I know it was May 1965, but does anyone have any idea as to which frame numbers had the ring and which didn't?

Ta

I was, but something possibly isn't right- its on a "B" plate but frame number 550XXX which puts it 1965 IMO.

Having said that my present TV175 is on a "C" plate and is also 550XXX, but HAS a chrome ring..............

Guese we'll never really know

B reg would have a chrome ring absolutely sure of this. Many "late GT's" are 125 Specials that have been doctored and it seems the TV175 is now receiving the treatment.

Personally I don't think this one has been doctored- just a mis-date on the original dating certificate. But, as you say, a non-chrome ring on a "B" plate stands out like a sore thumb, so on that basis, and that basis alone "I'm out..........." as they say.

Had my questions answered by the seller and I am 100% sure he is genuine. I'm positive that when the bike was re-registered in UK then the wrong date was supplied by the people doing the dating cert. Thats all thats "wrong" with it, and I am sure (!) DVLA could correct this to a "C" plater- somehow.

Right, I have two TV 200`s
(1) frame no.5475xx manufactured April 1965 with Frame ring 1st registered 1st March 1966 (D)
(2) frame no.5494xx " May 1965 without frame ring, age related reg. on a (C)
It can be confusing, you can`t confuse date of registration with date of Manufacture as shown above. And i`m not an anorak

Agreed- you can only go on the frame number- the actual date of registration can be irrelevant. Obviously the earlier frame 54751x was hanging around in a dealers, and wasn't regd until March 66, so its officialy "newer" although the frame is older.

In this instance the TV175 has a frame which was produced in 1965 (550XXX), although "officially" (and wrongly IMO) it has an earlier "B" plate from 1964!!!

So why has my present TV175 (also 550XXX) got a chrome ring???????

Thing is only a tiny amount of TV's were produced without the ring. Now everybody and his brother has them. They'll soon outnumber the chrome ring models and pretty soon they'll begin to have the same frame numbers as bikes already on the road.
