Hey folks....

Why would my scooter keep killing stator plates?
This will be my 3rd in about 1000 miles!

The latest one has dome about 300 miles.

The engine is an Imola 186 tuned to the max with the Varitronic - GP Ultimate ignition on it.

Are there any known faults, what should I be looking for???????

not a happy bunny

runs fine when cold but as soon as it starts to warm up the engine starts to hold back and misfires. Had the same thing about 6 months ago and checked out the stator and found the fault. Swaped ot for a new one and it was fine. Same thing happening again tho!

Have fitted a new coil, cdi, plug, cap & HT lead just to check....

Hello

Are you running a AF lightened flywheel?
I am and I had the original (as in the one that came with the electronic kit) stator start to play up after a few thousand miles. I replaced it with another SIL one only for the LT coil to go after a few hundred miles. I found out, from help on this forum, that the lightened flywheels need a low type LT coil, otherwise the soldered joint on this coil can contact the flywheel.

Otherwise is the flywheel contacting the pick-up?
Are you inadvertently twotting the the pick-up with your flywheel holding tool when undoing or doing up your flywheel nut?

In my experience most, if not all, my stator probs only occured when the bike was warm.

cheers

The only thing to go wrong on the stator plate, ignition wise, is the feed coil. Have you done resistance checks on it, when hot (ie when the misfire occurs)?

No not when hot as when i phoned CamLam they couldn't give me any reading for when it was hot only when cold. We tested the resistence when cold and it was outside the perameters they suggested.

I still have the old units does anyone have details on how to test cold and hot so I can double check????
