Mostly likely cos nobody would pay the price it actually costs to get it done properly, as with so many things ...the majority of the stainless offerings are probably from the Far East and built down to a price

I always read about not using stainless steel exhausts on 2 strokes but my experience with vespa and lambretta is only good

i have a stainless steel taffspeed copy from SSC on my SX TS1225 been on ages - plenty of miles all distance rallies not ride outs with no problem, a SIP Performer on my P2 the same, mate of mine has a stainless sip pipe on his T5 no issues (fitted by me)

i spend alot of time "fitting" and making sure they are not stressed on any fixings before for road use - yes i have opened out the holes, modified mountings but at the end of the day they have lasted under heavy use

i have just fitted another one to a ts i have just build for someone recently and i have another on my custom GP TS1 - i have every faith in the SSC stainless pipe - i also have a chromed Mild steel one on my other TS1 - again no issues with that build quality on all their pipes is spot on. My new project will probably use another one

alot of people are quick to bolt ss pipes on with a little force here and there - combined with some poor welding/material i believe there lies the problem

Im no welder but with good materials, good welding and precise measurements there should be no problem

Its probably gonna be a bit of a drawn out affair as im very limited with time. I need to find a donor exhaust first so I can make a jig and chop it up to see the internals. I will certainly post my progress!!??!

Thanks for the thread canbus. These are indeed of great interest. However, my aim at the moment is just to make a bog standard exhaust .....but in stainless steel:)

Thats pretty good service from franspeed.... were the cracks on the first one on or near the welds, or just in random places???

316 was designed for making piston engined aircraft exhausts. Its about £x4 302.

Yes warts. Ill be using 316L, without going in to carbide precipitation and the such, its good stuff. I also use it daily and have an abundance of off cuts piling up for my little project.
