Right then electrical peeps!,
I have done the DC conversion with the wassell rectifier & now want to add a battery.
I intend to connect the battery directly to the 12v output from the wassell & then connect via the ignition to lights etc!
My question is re the location & size of the fuse. Should this be connected to the +ve or -ve side of the battery, as I have seen various pictures where the fuse is connected on either side. If its on the +ve side should it be between the wassell & the battery or between the battery & the feed to the ignition/lights etc?
I guess the rating of the fuse will depend on the current drawn by lights etc?
:wtf:

In a battery powered system the main purpose of the fuse is to protect the battery.

The fuse should be connected from the frame to -ve terminal. You may then also wish to protect individual pieces of equipment in the circuit with individual fuses.

A battery short to earth can instantaneously deliver in excess of 200amps which is not good.

a 25amp fuse to earth will provide enough juice for everything you need, and still protect the battery from a short to earth....

I'm not tekky when it comes to electrics. Any idea what a reputable mechanic/dealer workshop would charge for a full wassell dc conversion?

I'm running mine with a 5 amp fuse on the ground side. Nothing heavy but digital speedo pathfinder and EGT plus normal lights. Only blown it once when I shorted the lamp socket with the headset top off. It did what it should no excitement and I still had lights with the engine running just lost the smoothing effect from the battery.

If using one fuse to protect the whole machine, it can be fitted in the pos or neg side. If fitted to the positive side, the wassel and loom feed should go to one side of the fuse and the battery to the other.
The fuse size is dependent on what cable size is used as this is what the fuse is protecting, a standard innocenti loom should have a fuse of 8A. Modern thinwall cable can take more so a higher fuse rating can be used if needed.
