Yam dog leg lever.

Hi all, has anyone ever heard of the Yamaha dog leg lever causing clutch problems? I'm asking as I'm having problems with clutch slip and I've been advised it could be the Yam lever causing it. Has anyone had similar issues that could advise a puzzled and confused man?? Cheers Pete.

Yes, had a MB dog leg clutch lever and had clutch slip. The travel is less then standard lever so it's easy to pull, but not good for clutch slip.

It's an MB one that I'm using. I'm just not sure why it would cause slipping. I would of though the opposite would be true and it touching the grip before fully engaging the clutch unit would cause gear selection problems and stalling? Can a grown up explain please??

its easy to pull,because the leaverage is altered but it does not pull the cable as much,clutch drag is more likely and then overtightening the adjuster will then cause clutch slip!
change back to origional lever.

Had them on two of mine for a few years now no issues with Clutch slip are you sure its the lever ?

I'm not convinced it is Toddy that's why I'm asking. Seems unlikely to me but the guy who's telling me it is has forgotten more about lambretta engines than I'll ever know.

I have an MB dog leg leaver with an MB 5 plate clutch set up on my Rapido 250, it works perfect and I have never had a problem with slip or dragging, I compared a YAMAHA converted leaver that I have to fit to a mates GP that I am building, the MB leaver has more travel than the YAMAHA leaver, I also have a GP with a 5 plate set up and am using a Spanish dog leg leaver with also works perfect, these have slightly less travel than the MB leaver although the MB leaver is more comfortable to use.

I had exactly the same problem with the yam dog leg lever. Had drag, so tightened up cable adjuster to cure it, then had slip. I stripped clutch down and replaced the springs I got with the 5 plate clutch with MB springs. Never had a problem since.

Almost the same for me with my 5 plate (standard basket and bell), the MB springs didn't work initially but adjusting the gap between the top plate and first friction plate to 1.5mm following Diablo's advice worked a treat :bouncing: Unfortunately it did drag a bit as the lever didn't have enough travel. I was going to shorten the clutch actuating arm which is said to remove the problem of drag without increasing the pressure required at the leaver too much. However, a set of PM Tuning Prostreet levers came up on here at a good price and despite having a bit of play at the pivot still manage to pull the clutch all the way in with a very light feel
