These gearboxes do sound good!

I've only done about 100 miles on my Super Monza engine so far, but I'm tempted to try one of these gearboxes in it next year, though Charlie (Edmonds) wasn't sure if they could cope with the power/torque of the Super Monza?!

In any event, I suppose only time will tell, but whatever, they do sound a great bit of kit, and I'm gonna try and persuade my mate to fit one to his TS1 to act as the club guinea pig!

Cyclone sounds brilliant.
Reports and above comments make it sound worth the money.
But, with me being a tight arse where £600 gearboxes are concerned, what makes this box
that much better than the old Tino 5 speed??

I only ask 'cos I have a NOS one on the shelf, and have yet to fit in the engine it was destined for.

Time will tell just how much power/abuse the Cyclone box will take but the way that it is manufactured means that the gears are considerably thicker than the Tino or Omega boxes, which regularly broke,... materials are better too.

However, another real difference here is that the ratios have been worked out so that it is a progressive close ratio box, whereas the Tino/Omega boxes are based on SX150 1,2,3,4 + SX200 4th as 5th. The SX150/GP150 gearbox is commonly accepted as being one of the top 2 gearboxes for having really rubbish ratio jumps, so chosing this as the basis for the older 5-speeds was a really daft starting point.

Edit: I should also have pointed out that I too have a couple of Omega gearboxes that have been completed (required because of component failure) by substituting parts from incomplete Tino 5-speed assemblies (also available because of component failure). A case of cobbling together broken bits to complete broken boxes. The Cyclone should stop this from happening because of the completely different way that they have approached manufacture (more gear thickness and less space between gears).

I didn't realise about quite how many people read these forums, that was until going to the Red Kites' end of season do on Saturday (good do, thanks)! I was shocked at how many people came up to me to quizz me over how I was getting on with the 5-speed box and ended up chatting about it most of the night.... and you know me (some of you do), it is not in my nature to stand about talking Lambretta

Graham from Wycombe/Aylesbury (?) was one of those that asked and asked me if there was a similar gearbox upgrade for for his LD, which he rode to Belgium and back for this year's Euro (return trip with our group)? I stated "No." but it turns out that I was wrong... in timescale! This morning I had an email from Rimini (on their mailing list) to say that they are developing a whole range of gearbox upgrades; 5-speeds for J/Luna 4-speed models, 4-speed for J/Luna 3-speed models, Model D 4-speed, which I assume could be used in a model D.... I don't know about these older models!!!!!), and TV175 SI. In light of this list, I guess that I was wrong and that Graham (not sure if you are a member on here?) will be able to buy an LD upgrade

It also turns out that, because of demand, they will also be looking to produce a limited number of F1 grade versions of the current SI-III 5-speed box specifically for VERY high BHP race use.

No more feedback on mine at the mo' as I'm trying to get my new Koso tacho wired up.

That makes an LD worth considering then.Id love a Milan Rat version of one of these.
