Hi all, would the Scooter restorations up graded crank be any good in an RB22 motor?

The only reason you run that crank is because its the crank you had in when the kit was fitted and you were on a budget. Its not the crank of choice though for a tuned motor......plus the RB revs much higher than the Avanti.

Get the best crank you can would be my advice. Indian webs are OK with Jap rod/bearing conversions with a TIG welded pin. Off the shelf, the minimum i'd go for is a MEC EUR 'black' race crank - the version with shims in. They cost about £50 more than the crank you have seen....but its £50 well spent.

I know Andy....but not a Jap rod and its not TIG welded. I'd want it TIGd up in an RB. Not sure exactly which Jap bearing they use either, I use the silver caged ones.

Agreed the RB needs a good crank it will find any weakness

I've put one of these cranks into a mate's iron 175 a couple of years ago. He has since done the last 2 Euro Lambretta rallies and others without issue. These cranks are perfectly good for this type of motor but fitting anything other than a top rate crank to an RB is a complete waste of time. Whilst the Scooter Restorations cranks have very good webs and bearings, the conrods don't look great and I can't remember whether or not they have suitable big end shimming.

If you rang Scooter Restorations and asked them if this crank was suitable for RB motor use then I expect that even they would point out the limitations of these cranks, whilst the motor that you are considering fitting it to is a top performance kit which will put real strain on any crank that you choose to fit.
