Fantastic infomation, very helpful. Just a question, if this conversion to dc is done on an original ac machine does the ignition switch have to be changed to a dc one? Or can an ordinary switch be use to isolate the battery so it doesnt discharge
No, the AC switch can be used. The battery will not discharge through the reg/rec like the old AF DC system, so doesn't need isolating.

This is the schematic I promised...hope this is of some help and explains the way I wire my system and the mini bridge rectifier. This system does work and I have run it over the last 20 years on many scooters....With and without the Zenor fitted...

thanks J1MS, that's useful, I have got hold of a decent rating zenor diode [from a Rally], so will try this out, although so far my tacho is still working... so I might leave it for now and see to some more pressing jobs.

JIMS, why did you go for this conversion over the vespa B+ regulator as your using more components to get the same result? Also the addition of one wire will give a full DC system, again wth less components.

good bit in scootering this month on LED bulbs as it says they shouldn't run on a non battery set up but they do. Also there is an advert for VE doing H7 15 LED headlight bulbs.
Has a mind full of useless s**t and isn't afraid to use it !

short imtermission: hi there!

following a somewhat longer discussuion at the german scooter forum (http://www.germanscooterforum.de/Lambre ... 58489.html), i had some 50 adaptor-rings lasered to get around finding those annoying bpf-bulbs over here in germany. ;)

outer dia = 36mm (bpf socket)
inner dia = 26mm (h7 bulbs and p26s bulbs, vespa v50 headlights).

more images can be seen in the GSF topic here: http://www.germanscooterforum.de/index. ... 1066115970 - more detailed stuff at my page, http://www.vespa-t5.org/lambretta-stuff ... al-lights/

the rings will be available soon at LTH, http://lambretta-teile.de (language selector at right bottom)

please don't ask me for shipping, costs etc, LTH will do that. i only had them made.

hope that helps.

I made some of these for myself last year. They're fine for showing off but in practice not so good. The reason is that the Lucas lights are designed with a particular bulb dimension suitable to that lense, when you fit different bulbs the light beam changes, like a big black blob in the centre of the spot beam :?

i watched the filament offset.

h7 has it's filament at exactly the same position with that 1mm ring, but unfortunately it's 55w only.

the halogen p26s and the yellow one are perfect, too:

my lucas spot gives a fine sharp circle, the lucas fog a wide line that fades on both sides and has beautiful sharp edges on the top and bottom side.

ed.

only one of my three tested p26s, a 15w round bulb (no halogen) hat the filament "back" 3mm too far.
