Never tired to repeat......
If you use the Sip/JL/scorpion pipes, you will have more torque at low revs but at 7.500-8.000 rpm the rpm curve falls hopelessly.
With the Quattrini pipe the engine pulls till 9.500-10.000 rpm like a smallframe engine.
With m1xl you have to use short gear ratio (22/65) to fully release the potential of the kit.
This kit has been really criticized here in Italy because the largeframe users think to build the engine like the previouus torquey kits Polini/Parmakit. But this is a totally different beast, it works like more his small brother the M1L for smalframes.
Let it rev, this is the secret!

like what you saying. i prefer to put 125 gearbox"s in malossi 210"s etc (when available) so i can alter the gearing with 20/21/22 tooth clutch cogs easily. thats what i"ll be doing with this.

Sorry to correct you but Tony's engine is not a M1XL its one of the early M1 X versions for the rotary valve engine. The port timings etc are all different. Yes it makes a lot of power but it is unrideable on the road as its purely a sprinter. Its power is only down to the time, money and considerable effort that Tony has spent on its development as a high reving quarter miler in road going form the M1X is not as potent as the reed valve M1XL but as Tony has shown anything is possible with the right approach

I am planning something along these lines. I am using LML casings and just bought the reed manifold and block, with a 26mm Del'lorto PHBH carburettor. This was my starting point, in time was going to add a banded cosa clutch. Which size of clutch is better to start off with 21,22 or 23 tooth. Which primary drive is reccomended. Are there better oil seals and bearings out there. What about the crank, which one is best used. Don't want to be milling anything. I want the internal parts of the engine to be as strong and long lasting as possible. I am trying to get the best out of the engine with the barrel, carburettor, exhaust and a stator/flywheel kit.
This is going in a GS frame with no or cut sidepanels, not decided yet. This going to be an experiment type scooter. Some of my questions might be a bit vague so bare with me.
Fuel pump, how big is it.

M1XL and the M1x are quite different as carb and manifold positioning on each is completely different as are the port timings. On the M1X like Tony's the manifold fits to standard crankcase inlet with the carb facing forward and positioned over the barrel. The M1XL is the opposite with the inlet manifold/reed block fixed directly to the barrel and the carb facing the rear . Tony's M1X has been modified to use a reed valve but still via crankcase induction and as I said earlier due to the many other modifications it's performance bears no resemblance a standard kit . The M1XL kit is more like an RB or TS1 whereas he M1X is more like a tuned version of a Malossi kit. As regards having to cut bodywork with the M1XL - not necessary if you choose a carb of narrow width( ie side to side) like the BGM 30mm powerjet or other PWK type. The only downside of the M1XL is the costin time as well as in money of all the necessary extra work that you need to do

I would go for the M1XL as it gives a much better spread of power and more of it making it a better road bike. The crank case induction M1X is easier to build but unless highly modified doesnt deliver much more performance than a Malossi 172 and as we all know the more you modify for performance the less rideable they get pushing the usable power too far up the rev range. If you dont mind spending the time and the money there is only one answer to your question
