As my Indian GP is starting to blow a little smoke on hard acceleration and I have to keep topping up the gearbox, I am about to strip down and replace the drive side oil seal, BUT as the retaining plate is probably alloy does anyone have a recommendation for the remade steel ones as original ones are virtually impossible to obtain?
I know that Taffspeed do one for about £15 and MB's is about £11, but ScootRS do one at about £7. Should I also replace the bearing which was replaced with a European one on original assembly(engine has done about 2800miles) with one which has the two extra seals if necessary or do it anyway?
Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Driveside Oil Seal Retaining Plates?
I remember when Websters tuning manual first came out in a monthly mag which was Run by Norrie Kerr, and as he was one of the best tuners on the race track....His reccommendation was to ditch the steel item and fit the alloy GP one instead....I can remember nearly every engine I built after that in the 80's, throwing away perfectly good steel ones for the GP type that now it seems no one wants to use.....Even me...

Yeah JIMS, but I think that was because they were lighter for the racing world, and I believe that Innocenti fitted them to the last few GP's which is probably why the Indians copied it.

at one time the ally ones where prefered cos they increased primary comp........flat face instead of the steel ones with a big groove in...............

I'd go with MB for £4 difference...

when I've been sent a bearing with two seals, I've always discarded one and then fitted the side without a seal facing the sprocket

Thanks for thoughts so far, the remade ones don't appear to have the slot as in originals. I was leaning towards MB as, IMO, their in house designed items have always been very good quality.

Thanks for reminding me about that, someone told me that Viton seals were more resistant to unleaded etc.corrado wrote:I'd go with the MB one and fit their Viton seals to mag & driveside.
