I have a px200 disc. It's been off the road for a few years until I started riding it again last year. Put it through MOT and all ok. Over the last few months my front wheel has become stiff when I first start riding then it clears up ok. So MOT was up again and I didn't have the time to look at it so I let lie and rode the harley instead. So I rolled the bike out this morning as I want to MOT it and use it as my commuter bike during winter, as well as fun when weather gets better. But the front wheel is locked solid and I know nothing of hydraulics.
Can anyone point me in the direction of what could be wrong or how I can loosen up the brake.
Cheers.

Wee buns. I can see one of the pistons isn't moving so well. Whilst the pads looked ok in thickness from an inspection, truth is they almost disintegrated as I pulled em out.
So two new questions;
What lube can I use for the pistons that won't run out onto my brakes?
And do these pads contain asbestos as I need to wire brush some material from their docks?

Cheers.

You should check that there isn't any damage in the piston bores then use copper slip/copper ease/copper grease (all the same thing) on the backs of the pads only ,nothing down the sides of the pistons that all has to be totally clean and nothing should be in there below the seals other than brake fluid.
The pistons are lubricated by the brake fluid nothing else, if they're seizing up then you might even need a new slave cylinder as there could be a clearance or swelling issue :?

Cheers dude. There was material all over the place in there. Will try it when I get some new pads and if not then Ill be taking the whole thing apart.

i messed around for hours with one (for a mate) - stripped it off bike, had to split the caliper and use mechanical means to remove the pistons (had to tap a thread into the piston wall and put a bolt in to turn them out) - new seals, new pads (copper slip as said earlier on the back of pad), new fluid and reassembled - spent half a day on it - works fine now but i wouldn`t do it again i`d buy a new caliper

i had a grimeca after market disc (criss cross hub) on for years which had a seal that covered the piston when they were exposed - the seal perished but i was still able get the pistons out - the complete disc brake is still on the shelf as i couldnt get seals for it - shame as it was great looked better than the factory fitted star type

Old topic but finally got around to finishing this. Cheers guys.
Used a bit of copper grease on the piston and its all fine and works well, just went through MOT too.
Now to get rid of that star hub for a classic wheel.
