sat at the lights this morning & opened the throttle to pull away & it would not pick up revs, just ticked over with the throttle wide open. I remembered that if I go onto reserve the revs pick up right at the point where I'm going to have an empty carb, so there I was bumbling down the road in 1st with the throttle fully open, chug, chug, chug etc, turned the fuel off & at the point where I'm going to have a empty carb, the revs picked up, I turned the fuel on & off I shot.

Weird. Any clues please chaps?

Sounds like its not getting enough air so when you turn the fuel off its weakening it right off and allowing the fuel to ignite. As the eye of gold says its likely to be spitting fuel into the filter and clogging it up so instead of drawing air in its dragging more fuel through and flooding it then as it starts to weaken off and rev up its clearing the filter and allowing the air to flow through it.
