kickstart problem

Afternoon folks.
I've just developed a problem with the kickstart on my s3.
It will not turn over and there isnt the usual feel of resistance/compression when i try it, or the sound of the engine trying to start.
It has been working perfectly but today but now when i kick it over the kickstart feels like the gearbox is full of treacle!
Any ideas whats gone wrong now?

could be clutch/ clutch adjustment- try unhooking the clutch cable from the clutch arm and then kick it over. If it kicks over as per normal then its probably the adjustment on the cable. If it makes no difference then its the clutch itself or the kick start shaft/ mechanism

Got stranded once, couldn't restart after a fill-up - the circlip had jumped out.

Hopefully it will just be a clutch issue, i'm still building things up after a full resto.
i hope it's not a cracked chain case!

did you use a new kickstart shaft? there are GP and Li versions, gp ones will rub on the clutch and cause it to feel "mushy". if its an Li one, check that the brass bushings in the chaincase cover are not sticking out, causing the shaft to rub on the clutch....causing mushyness.

of course as others have said, it could just be the clutch cable is too tight...

It was indeed the clutch adjustment and kicks over perfectly with it disconnected.
I just need to set the tension on the cable up properly. Thankfully i don't need to take chaincase of etc so thanks for the top tip.
