You going to struggle to get a definitive measurement, as this depends on the make of manifold and make of carb. Even the rubber might make a difference. You haven't even told us which side panel (left of right).
With the carb and panel fitted, I used a short pencil to draw the approximate location on the inside of the panel. Taking the footboard off (and the exhaust for a TS1/RB) will help. The rest is just good judgement

I've sorted out the hole size and placement, but before I started drilling I thought about the fact it will look like I've drilled in the wrong place when it's not being ridden.
Could someone help me out with how to put together a mesh cover with edging for the hole?
Thanks.

April Scootering mentions showing people how to line up panel holes for carbs in a future edition.......

the important thing is to realize that it needs to line up when ridden .............with the weight on as opposed to just on the stand...........but much depends on the size of hole to start with..................

Can I see your hole martin? I'd like measurements if that's possible.
A friend has an oval hole but it's too big (I'll show pics), I want a small one!!!
I like his hole. but I'd like mine a bit smaller.
