Ok , i decided to upgrade to a GP chaincase side on my Jet as the clutch fimble had started to wear quite badly. But the question is, do i have to use a GP endplate? the way i read it in stickeys book is no, and i cant tell any differrence on that part of the kick start shaft. But just wanting to double check.
Thanks once again!
GP Chaincase side question?

Later GP side casings dont have the 3 holes for the kickstart retractor drilled and tapped. If they are tapped or you can get it done you're ok, if not you will need the GP endplate,

Yes i realisewd the holes werent there just after posting this, haha. Would it be worth getting the holes tapped? I believe the earlier system is better is it not? Thanks

I drilled and tapped the holes myself. Very easy to do and yes the earlier system is better than the later one.servetakid wrote:Yes i realisewd the holes werent there just after posting this, haha. Would it be worth getting the holes tapped? I believe the earlier system is better is it not? Thanks

Ditto ... Just did mine like that, the casting is ther to guide you as long as you drill them straight and deep enough... measure the depth of the holes in your old casing

I'd better not attempt it then.rosscla wrote:................. as long as you drill them straight ...........
Have a seen some sort of tool / template somewhere for this specific purpose?
15 minute job. Very easy to do.
You need a 5mm drill bit and a M6x1.0 tap. The template is right there on your GP crankcase cover. Take the depth measurement from you old case, dot punch the center of each hole to be drilled on the GP cover, drill each hole to depth (can be done with a hand drill if you have a somewhat steady hand), remove debris, tap and thread each hole.
Done.

Ok, sounds like the best way to go. But how tight should a new kickstart shaft be? The original one just slides in and out of the original casing, but the new one does not want to go in the new casing? I've tried to avoid using shear force...
