Suzuki 225
Right I've got a 225 taffy Suzuki top end i.e barrel and head with no piston or crank what are my best options?? was going to get A wiseco ts 250 piston and a ape rod as i dont want to use bushes in piston ...but does the crank need machining for the rod ? An how thick will the packer need to be ? and which year of bike does the piston come from and whats the best pipe to go with it and do you know the best places to get the bits from links to parts ect ? Thanks paul
I'd try to reach Ian From Taffspeed seeing as it's one of their top ends, he may well post a reply on here.
Worth having a look on the MB Tech Site section of the Lambrettaspares website too, pretty sure you'll fInd at least some, if not all your answers there.

Just had a look. Vespa Ape 110mm rod, TS250 piston and (I assume) a 3mm packer.

dont waste money on the wiseco piston,, go ebay £35 delivered,, nowt up with um,, ape rod no machining but you need alot of shims cos the width of the ape rod aint very wide,, packer,, without knowing how much has been took off the base of your cylinder ?? who knows,, ?? till you offer it up,, but you will have to take alot off the skirt of the piston seeing as the ape rod is only 110mm long,,
i do this conversion with a alloy ebay cylinder 225cc (£50) if you know who to ask,, ebay suzuki ts250 piston 70mm (£35), yamaha outboard motor 116mm con rod from a very nice man in singapore (£15) and a jap big end bearing (£10), the hardest part is porting the cylinder cos you never know what you gonna get port timing wise,, make a packer to suit and if you can afford it fit a remote reed valve,, 30mm oko carb ,, remote filter and off you go,,
and i can tell you personally you wont get overtook by alot mate pulling li150 box 46/16 if you about 11 stone,, 46/15 if your a tad portly,,
i will post some photos tomorrow of one ive nearly completed for a bloke..

That is great information TT. Does the cylinderhead need re-profiling to suit the piston crown? Any problems with the hardness (or lack of) with the liner material of the ebay cylinder? Sorry to jump on your thread e-type.tarmac tickler wrote:dont waste money on the wiseco piston,, go ebay £35 delivered,, nowt up with um,, ape rod no machining but you need alot of shims cos the width of the ape rod aint very wide,, packer,, without knowing how much has been took off the base of your cylinder ?? who knows,, ?? till you offer it up,, but you will have to take alot off the skirt of the piston seeing as the ape rod is only 110mm long,,

hi,i have a gp indian crank, with a new ape 110mm rod fitted and trued, lubrication slot cut in the big end eye,
crank has bearing collar still fitted for mag bearing.
i have crank bearing which has done 1500 miles in a cast 200,and was sympathetically removed, just fellout with the heat
a suzuki ts 250 piston khc brand, which martin at chisel said looks good but rings are crap, which i broke one taking them off,
so will need new rings,
£80 plus p&p.
crank can be used with other jap pistons.
