I'd go with that advice too although you could repair your SIL stator using a BGM pickup and LT coil. Re the lighting coil you say went on one of your SIL stators, that is quite rare I think, sure it wasn't a dry joint? If you were testing them with a meter you would have read only around 1 ohm.servetakid wrote:Cheers barry. I have the mid weight one, so I should be safe to run that with the BGM stator? And then use my repaired sil one as a spare?

I've been using the AF mid weight flywheel with the V2 BGM too with no issues.
BGM no longer quote 80 or 120, they just do one version called V2.
BGM also have their own flywheel under development I'm reliably informed.
Casa do a version of the Varitronic kit which has a much better designed flywheel than the Tino[?] version, not cheap though.

I am using a BGM V2 stator plate with an original AF flywheel... I machined off 1mm from the mag flange so it fitted nicely under the flywheel. It highlighted that the factory machining of that face wasn't square!
The set up works fine - and the BGM stator plates are really good quality

That sounds good as I want to try running a V2 BGM flywheel with an original Ducati AF flywheel and the mag flange is already machined back 1mm.Dryballs wrote:corrado wrote:I've been using the AF mid weight flywheel with the V2 BGM too with no issues.

So original (Ducati made) AF flywheels work fine, sans clearance issues, I think there is a problem with Indian made AFR flywheels where the magnets are held in with bronze rivets. They seem to interfere with the magnetic fields unless the pickup is precisely lined up with the trigger point on the flywheel. Didn't someone here solve that problem by replacing the bronze rivets in the flywheel?

I don't think you can bet on no clearance issues even with the original Ducati AF.
On my motor I previously had an original AF Ducati and stator the mag was not machined and I had no clearance problems with it. On reassembly with a different crank it was fine till torque on the nut rached 50 lbft when it started to rub on the pickup. I took it off and put on an indian AFR flywheel - no rubbing even when fully torqued. I tried some of the old tricks with it like a thinner mag flange gasket but it still rubbed on the pickup. In the end I took it to an engineer and had them mill 1 mm of the inside face of the flywheel which i think is possibly a better solution than machining the mag housing as doing that allows the stator to sit a little deeper and can cause alignment problems between the pickup and the fingers on the flywheel magnets.
I also think i read somewhere that drilling out the brass rivets and replacing them with steel screws may have fixed the instability. Though I aslo think I may have read opinions that this was caused by the rivets being loose and allowing the magnets to 'wobble'. Seems I also seem to recall it being mentioned that AF had addressed this problem in later production??

I saw a cutaway plastic mock up on their stall at the Euro the guy on the stall said it would be about £200corrado wrote:BGM also have their own flywheel under development I'm reliably informed.

So, is it luck off the draw to weather my flywheel will work the BGM stator. It is one of the newer idian type fkywheels.
