I have a AF electronic kit on my Jet 200 at the moment. However ive gone through two stators in one week. Ive managed to bodge one good stator out of the two knakered ones. However, i dont want to leave it in the scooter for much longer, i only did this to get me to a rally. What would you guys do from the following optiuons?

Firstly, i could just buy another SIL stator and fix it with that. But im not that confident in them aftrer this last week.

Secondly, i could buy a BGM stator. Which i believe are meant to be better quality? But this would involve buying another flywheel, and going from MB's prices for a fly wheel and stator that would be over £200 quids worth :O So whjat flywheels can i use with the BGM stator? And will it survive longer than my SIL ones?

Or i could push the boat out and go for a variatronic. Even though my Jet200 is only pushing out 17.9bhp, i guess i should buy the ultimate version of the kit as the impression i seem to get from readin the website is that you dont get any warranty with the normal variatronic. And it would be just my luck not for it fail on me... Are these kits worth the money? Are these kits fairly bullet proof. Dont want to spend all that money to be in a simlar situation 12 months down the line.

I look forward to getting peoples opinions.

Thanks!

Howdo Young-un,

I have a vario in a muggy186 an it's been fine for the last 3yrs without having to touch any part of it. prob best leccy kit I av used.

Also fitted a Bgm stator/flywheel kit to me GP and this also has run fine since fitted.

A mate ov mine has had 2 stators pack-up within a week too, so went for the bgm stator, this did around 30 mile and packed up, whilst waiting 30mins for the recovery it fired up again. After getting it home he noticed the flywheel magnets had blued/scorched (poss rubbin on stator core), so changed the flywheel to a early A/F, not had chance to test yet to see if this is now solved it.

3 of us ride with Vario and upto yet have been trouble free, a bit pricey but seem to be reliable.

all the best bud.

Your bgm stator should work with the AF flywheel, subject to the usual clearance caveats.

Theres nothing in the stator that can't be replaced with quality parts have you considered repairing them?

I can't see that the flywheel can be to blame for the failing stators, maybe you were just unlucky. What was the fault that you found and eliminated by cobbling the two bust ones together?

Do you not have to machine your mag housing for the BGM stator to work with the AF flywheel?

One had the lighting coil go and the other the ignition coil go. So I cobbled them together. But one of the lugs broke in the vice (monkey metal) its only any good as a working spare in my opinion.

I just want to make it home from a rally once in a while.

I have recently fitted a BGM Stator and BGM CDI unit.
I run it with a Rayspeed supplied medium weight Indian Flywheel.
Runs well.

It's the light weight AF flywheels they have problems with .
Here's my tuppence !!
Sil stator rewired as a spare, and bgm with sil machined flywheel.
Now this has been my preffered set up on my rally going ts1 and has been like this for at least 4 years now, had an early bgm stator fail on way to euro at ireland last year , but my old Andy Francis rewired sil stator saved the day.
But fair play to BGM sent it back and they replaced with brand new updated 120 watt version, so if you do buy a BGM be safe in the knowledge that the after care service is second to none imo, (they've just replaced a 2year old shock of mine that went with a new one!)

Cheers barry. I have the mid weight one, so I should be safe to run that with the BGM stator? And then use my repaired sil one as a spare?
