When I was coming home from Lincoln I developed a problem just as I was coming into Liverpool.

If I opened up the throttle too quickly or went over 4K RPM it would seem to slip out of gear, but it's more like a sprocket or clutch issue.

Why would the chain do this and even after putting a new chain on the problem is still there. The new chain hasn't got loose.

I've noticed also that the kickstart is sometimes feeling like it's not engaging.

I dunno Dean. It's not something Ive experienced before.

When I burnt out my last clutch 4 years ago, the revs climbed and I lost speed and then the kickstart was "soft" without engaging.

Also, the chain issue, what's with that?

Page 75 of Sticky's manual mentions the raised points on the sprocket cam & sliding dog over riding each other gives the symptoms of slipping clutch.

But what about the slacker than slack chain?

Dive in there Rob with ya spanners and Put a 14mm socket on the front sprocket nut and torque it up and see if the sprocket cams jump over each other with ease, if so you may have a weak spring or warn sprockets :wtf:

I really didn't want to do this.

This casing is matched to the Muggy 225 kit. So I might just drop it out and strip and rebuild this TS1 into the other casing, but I didn't wamt to do this 'til after Mersea

Think I might be able to help.

Seen this twice within last year.

Both times was the front sprocket coming loose.

So when high pressure exterted on chain, the front sprocket just turns round.

Bet when you open up you will find inside of crankcase been rubbing on top of front drive cush.

Usually caused by using Indian seperate bolt and washer to retain drive cush.

Replace with MBD stainless single piece one and I bet its OK then.

You might also just need to check the cup on top of froint drive cush, its likley its corners are knackered, and hard to fit over next time. Either replace (about £5), or gently file and check for a good fit before putting back in engine

Hope this all makes sense if not just respond and will try and explain further

Yes it makes sense, my sprocket hasn't been rubbing the side of the crankcase, but when I try to tighten it, it's turning.


So it's off with the top end in the morning.

Can't you use a fly wheel holding tool to lock the crank while you undo it rather than strip the top end?
