TS1 rain in carb

After years running an open mouth carb with a panel grill on my TS1 with few problems,a friend persuaded me to fit a foam filter , after enlarging the hole in the panel, fitted a filter,(to be quite honest I think its a sensible idea), however in heavy rain water does get into the carb through the foam as it sticks out quite a bit and causes weak mixture sort of symptoms, fast tickover etc. and on one occasion cut out all together, anybody else had these sort of experiences ? don`t really know the answer.

Look up air filter sock on google. Should work just keep on in the glovebox and put it on when needed.

I've never had this problem and every time I go out it rains, I have a ram air filter, what make is yours?

Thats interesting, mines a ram air, it is on a 34 VHSB dellorto and it does stick out a long way. I don`t really want to take it off now, unless I have to.

your meant to clean your filter regularly with proper stuff that will stop water and dust geting through it, it gives the filter a thin coat of oil

^As he said^ had mine on two years now sticks out panel travels in all weathers as well

I`ve only had the filter on for about 6-700 mls, all new to me, I understand that you have to clean the filter, didn`t realise you need to waterproof it, I`ll have to sort that,

Foam filters should be oiled as it's the oil that captures grit and dust as well as repels water that said there's reason why Innocenti used and most modern bikes today use an airbox of some sort.
