Well, that's what Matt told me, and I saw no reason to doubt him after watching him toying with a rider on a racing RD400 at an open practice at the Streets of Willow. It looked like a very close race had developed between Matt and the guy on the RD and a sizeable crowd of spectators had gathered to watch them do several laps, both riders apparently straining to get advantage. The RD and the Lambretta looked evenly matched. Then, in the long straight, Matt waved to the rider of the RD and rocketed away from him. Crazy. I remember the old WCLW catalog and the tuning pages in it, all cast iron tunes up to "stage 8" featuring bridged intake and exhaust ports, liquid cooled heads, Boyesen Rad Valves, multiple boost ports, brazing along the transfer channels outside the cylinder so they could be opened up, they even put out a flyer about a future kit that looked not unlike the RB cylinders but liquid cooled, but that was back in the 80's. Never made it from paper, though.
I think Vince Chu still owns the scooter. But if you want 50+ hp, it's being done with RB 22 based engines.

You can buy the kit online, but it's expensive! And if you go with the 67 mm stroke crank and full engine build, you'll have to refinance your house or sell a TV or SX or two.
It's really intended for sprinting. I've talked with Andreas a few times and he reckons for reliability on the Autobahn that 35 bhp is the limit.
Then there's the old Worb5 80 mm water cooled sprint barrel that my mate, 'Mando bought and Dean will build. Someday, it's going in a slipstreamer frame and then they'll need to find a small, lightweight pilot to ride it on the salt flats. I offered to do that but now I'm too far away, married, etc. but they'll find someone I'm certain. That's the plan, anyway.

These WCLW motors and bikes were an inspiration to me when I was younger.... and they still are now!

I chatted with Vince Chu recently and he's getting Matt Dawson's old race bike up and running again so it might make a showing at a rally this year. He lives in Las Vegas, so who knows, he may show it there?
