Have the the above seat but original lock doesn't fit hole and seems slightly too long. Can anybody confirm that standard seat lock is interchangeable or does it need a different lock before i end up forcing it in?

Lock taken from standard px seat.

Hi Mongoose,
If the lock doesn't seem fit right I'd check first before you damage the seat....Beedspeed do replacement locks so a quick phone call or e-mail on Monday morning may save you a bit of unnecessary grief.....In the meantime have a look at their website as this may also provide useful information.
There are definately different lock types / sizes....although I'm no expert but here are my recent(ish) experiences......
This year my DDK T5 had a recovered Giuliari Pole Position seat fitted & the new replacement lock came from Beedspeed....when I bought this seat off e-bay in original condition someone had tried to fit what appeared to be a standard seat lock to it [no keys provided] - which clearly was incorrect & not suitable as it was too short ! The replacement lock from Beedspeed was longer & fitted fine so they clearly know "whats what" with seat locks....
Also, I fitted a VE Ancillotti to my old P2 back in 2009 that I bought off Scooter Trader website - although this already came with a lock & a set of keys [2nr] as it was virtually new.
The VE seat lock key is different to the Piaggio key as it is smaller, chrome plated & has the name/logo "Zadi" stamped on it
[Beedspeed replacement lock for T5 pole position seat is the same.....]
The original piaggio seat lock uses the same key which also fits the ignition/toolbox & has a rectangular rubber section as you probably already know...
Note: These also can have "Zadi" stamped on the rubber bit if supplied as replacement keys via a Piaggio dealer [as my T5]
Note: Original keys have just "Piaggio" stamped on them...not surprisingly
Don't know anything about "Zadi" but clearly they make seat locks for Piaggio and aftermarket seats such as those now supplied by VE...
I also have a spare Giuliari 1980's Corsa seat [same lock arrangement as Ancillotti] that I had recovered the same as my Giuliari Yankee seat with rear light for my PX210 (profile picture)....I have kept the original Piaggio seat lock for this scooter to fit to the Corsa seat if I ever swap the seats round......so I haven't yet crossed the same bridge you are trying to cross...although it did appear to be OK length wise...
Finally, I've just had a quick look at my old P2 fitted with the VE Ancillotti seat, & it appears that the shorter type lock is used which I believe is the same as the standard factory fitted lock type....
Not conclusive I know but hopefully may be of assistance to you in the meantime.......
Worse case is you may have to buy a new lock for your seat - although they are not very expensive, but obviously means you have more than one key for all the locks on the scooter.....
Cheers,
Boz

Thanks, looks like i am going to have ring them. I definitely don't need a longer lock but my standard lock is the shorter original type and keys are piaggio ones.

The hole to slot the lock into is a few mm shy each side and i have tried to slide just the plate in underneath and thats about 4 longer. It seems such a close fit that it would be handy if original lock would get in there.

Update: Couldn't wait so filed out the hole and standard lock now fits. For some reason i had to swap the seat rubbers at the end for the smaller depth original ones so that seat would sit low enough for seat pin to sit deep enough into lock to catch.

Middle rubbers although bigger than originals don't touch the tank, not sure if thats normal but doesn't seem to effect anything, all seems pretty stable and locks/unlocks fine.

Feels good to be about 1 1/2 - 2 inches lower.

(just read, i need to pack out the middle rubbers with rubber washers so that they do touch the chassis, in case anybody else has to do something similar).
