I’ve just fitted a new Carb and a new plug--I’ve done about 25 miles with no troubles i’ve done a few plug chops but can’t really notice any difference yet in color - plug still looks like new if a little wet

how long does it take to actual get a brown colour on the end of a new plug

it should show almost straight away and a new plug is very good for reading, the colour is there you just havent found it yet look deep down the side of the porcelain to where it meets the plugs steel body youll find a clean white ring at the base and directly above around a 1mm deep ring of colour the higher the grade plug eg a 9 or 10 the porcelain is higher up and on race grade plugs is visible at the top making reading very easy

Are you saying you can read the plug by the porcelain.
Not heard of this before how does it work.

I think to be clear, Darrel means the bit of porcelain which shrouds and insulates the central electrode and not the bit you attach your plug cap to....

thats correct rosscla
what normally happens is plug is taken out and a quick glance appears white with no colour on it but if you examine it closely deep down the side youll find it has the ring of colour
