Switching lights via ignition switch

or I've also converted the Li switch to have fog to the left, spot to the right, and both on in the middle. After using the final ignition switch position to provide power for the lamps

I just bought one of those from SR, supposedly for indicator model but mine definately wasn't even though the wiring colours matched up. After around 5 hours of pulling my hair out and unsoldering all the wires to the alleged indicator switch I realised that the 2 outer teminals (only one had had a wire in) were actually joined together via a brass strip burried inside the Bacalite back plate :roll: I figured there had to be a connection so used the dremel with a cutting disc and hit brass about 1mm below the surface. With wires in the left and right terminals and one in the center switch pivot I now have a functioning indicator switch. Not too happy that I should have to so much re-working though, I'll probably give them a call tommoz and let them know.

you must be vexed to keep going on about it... ;)

It's worth changing the cables on those Indian switches anyway, use some decent thin wire, and use a wide piece of sleeving, so the cables can be "flat" around the throttle rod to avoid any hinderance to a smooth throttle action

Ooer....my interweb seemed to get hung up and I clicked on it a few times before it went :oops:

Good point about the wires, it was the same with the old stock CEV switch for the Jet that I bought from them, really thick cable but the strands were badly tarnished, even when I stripped the insulation back. Must have been stored somewhere really damp but at least that one was described as 'shop soiled'.

Well done on tracking down the problem and even more well done on managing to get inside the switch! The ones I was shown last week were so rusted together that there's no way they would have unscrewed at all!
I managed to convert my Li switch - pretty much the same proceedure as what you did except the copper strip wasn't set inside the bakelite.
I had to mod it a bit more as my indicators are going to run off a seperate DC circuit from the ac circuit for the lights so I needed to isolate the circuits from each other but it now does exactly what I want it to.
A good weekend all round it seems!

To be fair to SR who are normally spot on, my switch looks ok externally but one of the internal threaded pillars on the cover fell out when I unscrewed it so the back plate can only be held in with one screw now. My gripe is that they are selling switches which are plainly not as described. Probably due to being wrongly packaged in India i the first place.

I will have to strip it again as the left hand indicator contact is a bit hit and miss with the cover on so will need a blob of solder on it.

PS, my indicators are also DC using a car type flasher relay and a maplin warning buzzer and LED repeated light in the headset (it's a Jet so has the 3 indicators). I needed to fit some diodes in circuit to stop the common repeated and buzzer connecting the left and right indicators together.
