Hi all for those electrical minded, will this work ???

When i kick the motor i want to use the power to fire a relay to turn on my auxiliary items , fuel gauge , volt meter , gps. And then when the engine is killed the relay will click off thus switching off the aux items.
My ignition switch doesn't have auxiliary position in order to only turn on the auxiliary items as I would like, so this is the only option I could think of. I have added a blocking diode to in between the battery and wassel unit to ensure the relay wont draw from the battery when the engine is killed.

I'll be interested in any thoughts

Dont see what is energising the Relay....

I would have the output from the Wassel unit energising the relay, that then switches the +ve from the battery fused through to the aux units.

It looks to me like you'd need a feed from the "main battery feed to ignition switch" to the relay and then to the auxiliary items, plus an earth.
A relay normally has 4 connections.
1) 12v in to switch relay
2) earth for switching relay.
3) 12v in from battery to power auxiliary items.
4) 12v out to auxiliary items.
You're missing 2 & 3
I get my kicks out on the floor.

Hi Guys thanks for the responce

Yes sorry i haven't included the relay part properly, i would pull the switch live from the main +, i just want the engine to trigger the relay so i don't have to arse about with a manual switch which i could leave on and flatten the battery, hope this makes sense.

Keep em coming

I am awaiting more responses as well, my setup is nearly the same.
I have an added timing retard device on the cdi side, which shouldn't matter to the power supply side of the diagram.

I have a keyed ignition with several positions. I guess I need to map out the functions of the wires from that, and then decide how to isolate the power feed to be on when I want it to be on.
And, I would like to add a single spot light, on a switch of its own, with the use of a relay, powered from the battery or wassel, or both/either.

Can't you just power the aux. items off the lighting wire the other side of the ignition so when you turn your lights on it powers the aux. That's what im doing ?
Btw im no electronics expert :-(
When i was young my Mom said "if you haven't got anything nice to say, say nothing at all " ..................... and people wonder why I'm quiet around them !

To answer your question and taking account of your later comments re feeding your accessories via a supply direct from the battery, yes, it should work just fine providing you get the diode the right way round and you chose one with sufficient current carrying capacity.

You are nearly there...

If you consider that the relay acts as a switch, and that the power coming from the stator via the Wassel unit is the thing that flicks the switch.

If you connected the Wassel unit to Pin 86 on the relay, the battery as indicated on the diagram above coming in on 30 and leaving on 87, and instead of spotlights you used your accessories (you wont need 25amp wire though).... Then this will work when you fire her up.

As Coaster says you need to ensure that the Diode you use allows the DC from the Wassel unit to charge the battery effectively. Jobs a good un. :bouncing:

Fantastic, thanks for the replies i will start to look for some relays and see what diodes are available. If anyone has any idea what relay or diode i may need i would be grateful for any advise. :P
