Just wondering if the use of a packer would increase the primary compression and if it did, would it be significant and be a good or bad thing?

the packer will increase case volume ,i dont consider it as compression as very little exists and does so for a small duration
the volume increase may help depending on the engine spec and pipe in use

Paul, what piston are you using to do the dry measure -up with? Maybe you could try the TS 185 piston, as its got a comp. height of 30mm ... so if my maths is right this would help. Ok, I'm not exactly sure how the piston / ports will line up with this configuration of barrel / rod / piston but . Just thought that there might be more than one way to skin a cat?

Edit = and you might have to cut two reed holes ...

Hi, Ian. The piston is a Taiwanese Aoki (packaging looks very Mitaka). It's from an RD350LC, YPVS, RD400. It looks and feels decent quality. Gudgeon slid in without the effort you often have with certain aftermarket Lammy makes.

Rich T, and others, have advised me there's no reason why the packer won't work well so I'm going to give it a whirl. Cheers, mate

Ok mate, no problem. Just keep an eye on not having too big a gap between flywheel and cylinder cowl ..oh and try not to stress any exhaust fixings. Curious to see if it makes any difference, let us know how you get on.
