race regs say you have to have a steering lock,and on a race bike you dont want too much of one so this is a way to minimise the lock ...i did mine with a big u clamp round the frame.

well ...there's those reasons ..and in an off ..the standard steering stops are not to effective ...stops you picking the scoot up off the track with the head set facing the seat

Surely the headset would turn on impact regardless, they're not exactly fixed are they :-?

If crashed the lambretta steering stop is not great.. it can burr over causing an issue with the steering. better to remove it and fit stronger easily repairable stops. Most lambretta people seem to also reduce the angle.. I am not 100% but I think there is a maximum limit on the angle.
If it were me I would work it to the maximum angle to try to save headsets in the crash situation.
