How easy is that?Darrell Taylor wrote: the rs ignition curve is for a 125 with a different bore and stroke to its new home on a lambretta so its curve although works ok will be vastly better when reprogrammed

the rs ignition can be reprogramed with a few aftermarket products as mentioned ,the zeeltronic or hpi programmable cdi units and programmers ,if a suitable curve is made available then either could be ordered as a pre programmed cdi unit from the manufacturer costs vary £120 to £500 depending on how its achieved

How easy would it be to make your own curve?
Would it require dyno time, or just a laptop and a bit of brain?

easier not to reinvent the wheel and start with a baseline curve from a similar capacity air cooled motor to get somewhere within range if your not gonna dyno ,but with dyno is an easy enough process, although theres a few good tricks that can be done with a programmable systemMuttley McLadd wrote:How easy would it be to make your own curve?

It was a nice bit of kit,Darrell's info on it explains the problem we had and that's why that when we went back to static timing there was a difference. But there's some very good advantages to it. After re- mapping it'll work really well.
Its an interesting barrel and saw one at Micks a couple of months ago, seems some continental teams were getting 53 from it although their classes are now defunct.

bit of a mix up,the ones im working on are humble aprilia rs125 road bikes that are raced in production classes in the uk
the rs125 aprilia works gp bike puts out around 53 and rev to an insane 14-15k on a special centrally mounted disc valve set up
there a result of a 12 year world gp racing program and represents the peak of 2 stroke race engine development

Guy Topper has tried the HPI unit with little effect, thou he never had the bonus of a dyno to quantify any changes. On the track he could never get it to work for his set-up. I've the chance to retry and persevere with this, worth it?Darrell Taylor wrote:the rs ignition can be reprogramed with a few aftermarket products as mentioned ,the zeeltronic or hpi programmable cdi units and programmers ,if a suitable curve is made available then either could be ordered as a pre programmed cdi unit from the manufacturer costs vary £120 to £500 depending on how its achieved
