theyve made millions of p-ranges /Et"s/GT"s etc. plenty of good 2nd hand bits knocking about, and a boat load of aftermarket spares, i wouldnt be bothered about it. i could probably build a px out of stuff lurking in the dark corners of me shed!

If that is the case they'll have to be careful as people will go elsewhere.
Sadly, I haven't got any spares- and usually have to pay top dollar for secondhand bits. With other cars and bikes I've had, the pattern parts have often been of dubious and sometimes dangerous quality.

Is "Rat-look" the answer!!!!

doesnt have to be. most classic scooters are running with aftermarket bits fitted. if you ran say, a bog standard P200E, you would get about 7 re-bores or more on a barrel, at 30k or more a re-bore... would see you out. same with cruciforms, an FA italia cruciform will last 20k in a standard motor. if your that concerned, buy a couple of hundred quids worth of bits , gaskets, cables etc, and stick them in a cupboard, along with some tinned fish, spam, plenty of ammo for the M16, 40 pounds of rice and some blasting powder. when they drop that bomb, you"ll be the only one with surveicible transport and a decent weapons system. you"ll clean up mate. hope this helps.

ok, individual solutions for scooterist sheds are one thing (pattern parts, used stuff, rat style etc..)

BUT:

piaggio politics of selling pattern parts in piaggio boxes and fewer genuine parts in original wrappings
and doubling a lot of prices or rising them up to 500% will have dramatic effects on normal customers
and scootershops. shops will have to justify this and customers will turn their back on classic piaggio / vespa agents
getting ripped off. a classic piaggio dealer will have existential problems. maybe your helpful local favourite dealer.
