Got a Spanish 200 lump,Engine number M73 (AND THATS IT :wtf: ) and the flywheel/ignition is a Motorplat! my question is can i swop out this ingnition for a standard PX stator and flywheel or because its Spanish will i have to start jumping through hoops to convert it ie crank etc?
Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there`s a 90% probability you`ll get it wrong.
Early p2 DS prefixed casings had the red motoplat type ignition, with fixing holes ONLY for this type of stator. They then produced a motoplat motor that ALSO had the holes drilled and tapped to accept the typical Italian type Ducati stator. Next the DN model used the commonly accepted Ducati type stator plate / CDI's.junkyard wrote:Got a Spanish 200 lump,Engine number M73 (AND THATS IT :wtf: ) and the flywheel/ignition is a Motorplat! my question is can i swop out this ingnition for a standard PX stator and flywheel or because its Spanish will i have to start jumping through hoops to convert it ie crank etc?
First check that you don't have the casings that can accept both types of stator, if you do then simply fit the later version
If you don't then you can decide to either source a known working Motovespa type motoplat ignition, or modify your existing flywheel side casing. Lastly you could replace the whole flywheel side casing with a later or Italian version and change the crank to suit ... not cheap but you may need to rebuild the engine anyway and have a secret stash of spares

matched casings would be ideal, but I know of many p2's with replaced casings, the majority run Ok. Being Spanish, it might be best to check at every opportunity when rebuilding or ideally source a pair of Italian casings.junkyard wrote:Love it :anbrgin; ere we go again,Cheers Soullad, just a quick one on changing the flyside case (if reqiured) aint these matchedor dont it really matter
I had exactly the same issue with my Brothers early Spanish P2, ended up sourcing a later Iris engine tbh, much less agg in the long run. Harry Barlow did offer to machine the original casing back to accept the Italian stator but its not an easy job, just mounting the flywheel side casing in a milling machine, then the measurements, new crank and so on and its easy to see why I chose the engine swap!

If someone has the Early p2 DS prefixed casings, red motoplat type ignition, with fixing holes only for this type of stator, theres a remade stator avaliable on this website: http://www.levistronic.es/index.html. This remade stators are quality, so buy with confidence. :bouncing:soullad wrote: Early p2 DS prefixed casings had the red motoplat type ignition, with fixing holes ONLY for this type of stator.
