Hi all, Im after some help again LOL
Im looking to see if I can mod the bottom of my fork to run taper race bearings top and bottom as I prefer them, but if I cant or decide not to, I need some advice
I have bare GP forks, and will be making the headstock tube for my frame on the lathe, so from what I can see this kit:
has the 2 bearings, , stem nut etc
BUT are the bearings complete, ie both parts, or will there be other parts required.
will simply start with some fat wall tube and take the internal ends out to suit the bearings.
taper race would be simpler and better, top one is simple as its 25mm stem, but the very bottom of the stem appears to be tapered, to either need to turn up a collar and sweat it into place to take a taper race, but will be huge bore.
dont fancy hanging the forks out the lathe chuck and turning the base parrellel, think they would vibrate about like a bitch LOL
headstock bearings
to be honest tony all of the new bearing sets are mismatched shite ...the ball races them selves are OK (ish)
and the lower ones are acceptable but the top ones i have found are not matched and the balls dont sit in the groove
i would personally go with the taper set up

I have just seen a top screw on bearing race on a gp that didn't have the thread in it correctly so when you wound it in fork stem it was not level.

heavy is good, heavy is reliable, and if it does fail, hit them with it!!!

dont forget Im making my own headstock tube, so its easy, just need to get the bottom of the fork stem to accept the inner race and the rest is childs play

I like the way this build is going, this could be the new Lambretta we've all been waiting for, keep it up Tony
Do you have a budget or an estimated total build cost?
