Just got mine back from Quality Chrome and now need to get the bearings fitted.

Is this the same as Forks where it may have to go to my nearest vespa dealer MSC for them to use certain tools(clamps presses?? as per fork thread) or is there a self help way of getting it done without wrecking the show chrome and still getting a propor safe job done????

Cheers

Phil,
You can do it at home easily enough.....in the past I have used sockets to drive the outer bearing shell home whilst resting the other side of the hub on bits of flat timber with old rags so it doesn't damage anything...other usueful tips are;

1)Put the bearings in the freezer so they contract just slightly to assist being driven into place
2)On normal hubs / parts (not painted / chromed) boiling hot water on the hub / part receiving the bearing help the bearing locate as point 1
3)Use the right size socket end with small extension bar so you don't damage the bearings or hub / chrome finish
4)Use a nylon hammer to drive the bearing home & do it gently.....no great lump hammers !!
5)Keep stopping to check if the bearing is locating OK so you don't keep hitting the socket bar when it is already driven home...

Saying all that... I just got MSC to fit all new bearings / seals to my mark 1 T5 front end as a complete job....because they had all been chromed like yours & I just wanted to avoid any drama in my garage.......Note : I suffer badly from stress when things go wrong !!

Ultimately I expect you will be gutted if you damage the chrome for the sake of an hours approx labour charge from MSC.....

Hope this helps

Cheers
