Burning clutch plates out...Now with Photos

phew! how old are the casings? some older px casings have a web of ally in where the clutch sits, also the clutch cover has a web of ally that needs grinding off, both can interfear with the fitting of larger 200 style, and cosa clutches. also, the thickness of the large washer, or oil drive cog behind the clutch can interfear with the actuation of the clutch. i wish i had it in front of me for a proper look. SIP do a thinner washer, but ive successfully ground one down (they are hardened steel) and used it. (without autolube. i disconnect it on tuned motors whenever possible.) the smallblock motor i have now has a cosa clutch, and the webs of ally ground away, and a thinner washer, all to make it work. been no bother for 1000"s of miles. keep us posted. Dazza , you still need that battery tray?

Cases are 2002 (year of the scoots manufactor) and in really good shape.

Just to amke things worse my 210 daily ride has died as well !!

Any one know why this is happening????

Full engine all new parts on build all new bearings . Only kept vespa crank.

Advice welcome as its bizzare, followed all the advice given on this forum re different types of clutches and set ups- All failed??????????????????????????????

well heres my two penneth :lol:
The tongue damage looks typical when using a flywheel that is too light such as the HP4 type
The burning out prob of the plates could be caused by the omission of the white plastic/nylon oil thrower ...
.and the above two probs could be compounded when using a bigger diameter clutch in 125/150 casings without removing the alloy ribs in the main case or clutch cover .

SIP re enforced Clutch basket arrived (thanks to Tom at WSP for fast delivery & at great price :D )

Fitted at Classic in Notts with Newfren Carbon plates , XXL SIP springs and with new primary drive.

Didnt eat the clutch (which it had done with the previous 4) but makes a really odd rattle on changing down ????????????????

Things mentioned so far,
1) Clutch bedding in?
2) Gears catching each other ?
3)Result of mixture of newfren Sip and Piagio parts?

Going to give it a propor run on the QMC hospital charity ride out in Notts Sunday So Fingers crossed. However will have trusty AA card in pocket.

Update- IS THIS GODS WAY OF TELLING ME TO PACK IN SCOOTERING?????

scooter has done 47 miles since i got it back from classic earlier in the week.

On way home today clutch has gone again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Im really losing the will to live CAN ANY BODY HELP ????????????????????????????????

It had new p2 primary drive , renforced sip basket and circlip, sip xxl springs newfen carbon plates and steels.

it eats cosa clutchs, paiggio and lml clutchs after very few miles

Didnt have the slipping this time and went at about 50 mph on a main road as all power just went.


In total since full rebuild its doen less than 500 miles i guess and not hard miles either

kick start just makes ratchet noise and wont start by electric either so its same as before clutch?????????

Any thoughts welcome
