A friend of mine has an Electric Start Px 200. I recently changed the battery on it for a brand new one after the old one popped its clogs and wouldn't retain charge. Before fitting it I charged it up for the recommended period of time with the charger showing that the battery had retained its charge and was in fact fully charged.

The vehicle started on the button using the electric start at first but after a period of inactivity (approx 3 weeks,) the battery seems drained and won't provide the power when using the electric start.

Would that be a normal length of time for a battery to drain when the scoot is'nt used, or is it symptomatic of another problem electrically.

Thanks.

I had an interesting chat with the guy in the local motorcycle accessory shop about batteries.

He says people often come to buy a cheap battery for a bike "cos it is only used in the summer months". His counter to this was that cheap batteries don't hold their power as well as better quality batteries, so you will be asking for trouble if you are expecting the engine to fire-up after a long lay-up.

Fitting a better quality battery will not guarantee that your won't pass that critical point of no return for starting the engine, but it will take longer to reach that critical point, and when fully charged, it will deliver more cranking power.

I bought a cheap battery for my Nexus 500, but I keep it on the trickle charger over the winter.

Thanks for responding Knowledge. Much appreciated. That's put my mind at rest and confirmed what I thought. Cheers.
