I'm building an S Type and my leg shield toolbox looks the perfect spot to fit a rev counter. Question is, what type?

My scooter is a 67 SX150 so the look is sixties street racer, not eighties metalflake, and I want a rev counter that looks correct for the period. I'm not too anoraky: an analogue one that looks right is fine, even if its a repro.

Second question is where would it hook up to and what is involved? presumably electronic ones take a feed off the ht lead, what about analogue type?

Any help and suggestions appreciated

Hi.

Although I didn't start scooting until 1973 at 17, I reckon that electronic tachometers had been in use for some time on sporting scooters. In any case, why presume that a 1967 SX would have been ran from new in any of the 'Dealer Special' liveries? The likelihood is that a scooter would have been ran for several years in a standard format and had several owners before being 'made over' in the style of a Dealer Special Possibly, even by the actual dealer, which can't be the case these days! There must be far more AF 'S' types on the road than poor old Ray, or whoever, could have ever produced.

So, if you get my point, a Krober rev counter was definitely an option that was available by the late sixties. I have seen headsets modified for their fitment but, more commonly, leg shield toolboxes with them in the top or lid.

I had one, silver faced, 0 - 10000 that I lent to two scooting brothers to copy. Unfortunately, one died in an RTA so I never asked for it back.

Krobers are available new at about £183. Perhaps a quantity discount could be negotiated?

I hope this helps.

Koso GP style analogue rev counters aren't bad looking and fit flush into the top of a legshield toolbox.

Warkton - thanks for the comments. The krober ones certainly look the part and I like your view on the historical context.

As it happens I have actually gone down the route that mawso suggests and ordered a koso gp analogue one which does look very tidy.

I had a good chat with Jon at http://digitalspeedos.co.uk/ who was really helpful and ordered off him. I've ordered an analogue clock too - I think they will look great in the top of the toolbox.
