GP frame
Hi all, I have been given a brand new Indian GP frame but it was a new replacement frame and has no frame numbers on the frame or on the little plate that some had on the frame loop. I have enough parts around the house to make a complete scooter, but how do I get a frame number and a reg number ??? Any Ideas guys.
if building one offs the dvla will issue you a frame number so i guess the same would apply to your frame ..i know you said you were given but did the guy you got off have a recipt at all as stuff like that is a great help to please the pen pushers
might be worth asking frank as i would assume he can number his frames

If your going to do the proper legal route then its easy.
Write to dvla and request a vin number.
Put scooter through msva test get mac then register it.
Problem is your into indicators and sound level tests etc. Will be q plate. No mot for 3 years.
This should be the route of many scooters but i guess ignorance is bliss lol. The custom bike world and in particular the trikes are getting some scrutiny now from vosa with regards to v5 etc
the test isnt hard. You only need to pass it once.
The manual is free online to read and download.

I'm sure I read somewhere that the best bet was to build it into a complete scooter as the DVLA don't like frames on their own. Might just be pub talk though.
Sod DVLA and just build a sprinter with it.

they will issue a VIN number just by requesting it in a letter, will begin SABTV or similar.
The DVLA inspection is seperate to the MSVA and yes it will need to be a complete scooter, lots of places the MSVA test centre is near the DVLA office, I have twice managed to get the inspection done the same day, and got my numberplate etc all done on the spot, its important to get things tied up timewise as a lot of insurance companies will only give you a cover note for 7 days on a VIN number
funny thing is that you can ride to the MSVA with no registration number, so long as its insured on the VIN, but for the DVLA inspection the bike needs to be on a trailer. stupid rules and regs
in my experience they werent too worried about receipts, the one time I was asked for a receipt for my frame I said I didnt have one, how could I as its an amateur built vehicle, and I built the frame from scratch, she insisted, so I asked for a sheet of paper and a pen, wrote it out on her desk in front of her, she took it from me, photocopied it and said "how hard was that" LOL nowt as strange as DVLA employees LOL

Thank guys, a few thing to think about. There is a test station a mile from my house and I'm working in Bristol at the moment and I think the DVLA building is near to where I'm working. Now can I live with a damn Q plate ???

They no longer have the stigma they used to have.
Insurance isnt a problem. Its also sort of a free ticket to build what you want in the future
my trike is q plate. And the bike engine scooter im about to start will also go Q plate.
With modern led lighting its easy to hide indicators etc. Or they have been known to fall off as you leave msva test centre lol

no alternative really unless you can convince them to agree a date based on Indian gp production( very unlikely ) ..but at least with a q plate it will be then a usable frame /scootT5-190 wrote: can I live with a damn Q plate ???

Just read the MSVA on the you gov website. The vehicle must have 2 mirrors E stamped, a stand warning device, a alarm/immobiliser, E marked bulbs, very strict noise and exhaust readings, no user adjustable shocks. After reading that lot I gave up reading the rest of it, there are hundreds of pages. And all that for a Q plate.
well ..either sell as is for a group 4 race frame or cut the loop off and sell that on ebay
