Coorect brake set-up

Hi All, finally got my sereis 1 on the road-runs like a dream although still running in, but......

Having followed the Sausage DVD & Sticky's book, I've had trouble setting up the rear brake. It's a s1 case, changed to a GP 150 (SIL) brake cam, new GP shoes, new Casa GP hub, but I can only get soft braking.

I've had the brake off 3 times, filed down the high spots on 2 new sets of shoes to no luck (and scored the drum lining in the process). Before I pull it off again, can someone take me through the process of setting up the cable correclty -is there a right way to do this?


Also, front forks now shudder when I brake (Scootrs outboard). This is meant to indicate a loose clamp, but I can't see any play in the forks. Could this be a sympton of another problem.

Any advice appreciated, coz it's no good if I can't steer or stop!

Is your scoot rs disc the outboard type if so how have you routed your cable any pics mate ??

Their has been a few threads recently re brakes and setting up, grinding high spots and the lack of asbestos etc. etc.
By the time you get it working most of the meat will be gone from the shoes.
A must fit for me is a one piece brake cable Scooter loopy John does one as do others, No folding the fat cable round the bolt on the adjuster with it grounding out on full travel.
Adjusting the arm position by a spline or 2 to give more travel is always a good idea.
Front Scoot RS one could be your bearings need a nip up now the grease has dispersed. Lift the front end off the ground and see if you have any play up and down or side to side.
Is the drum link stub tight onto the Scoot Rs Stainless Forked side plate

Craig h's scootrs disc was warped quite badly causing the lever to pulse. Put a new disc on and it's cured.som indian casings have the brake pivot pins in the wrong place from my experience

knowledge rear brake cable, you might want to check the front disc for true..I've had the same symptoms on a bike before and the disc wasn't true.

on the subject of rear brakes is there an optimal position for the rear actuator arm?, as i had moved mine forward along the lines of the clutch i.e square to cable but after brake issues at mersea im not so sure. some is down to the s**t F A italia hub which is getting binned.

Thanks for the tips, guys. Will check the front disc alignment. As far as the rear brake goes, I'll check everything again, but could it be a case of shifting the cam arm? I marked it up as found, but maybe the cam needs more leverage?

If the rear brake arm is installed in wrong splines it will hit the casings before fully "opening" the cam and thus making the brake ineffective.
