mismatched flange to case

trying to figure out what flange i have.

the case is an early Sr2 and i thought the mag flange was original to it but I could be wrong.
when the flange is seated the transfer port in the case sits proud relative to the flange on all 3 walls of the transfer.
i'd rather not grind down the case to blend it so i just want to confirm that what i have isn't the original flange so i don't end up buying an identical one.




also, unrelated. the case cover had a "4" stamped above the k/s shaft. just curious if it's common. the scoot has had a bodged life so it wouldn't surprise me if it's "custom"

the mag flange you have is for 200cc .it doesn't present you with any problems especially if you are running standard top end ,i believe Spanish small block lambretta were like this as standard to save having to produce two different castings

Wasn't there a short prototype production run of sidecasings before the series 3 ribbed type were finally introduced to strengthen the kickstart area?

Something to do with different better grades of ally being used in the mouldings but it ended up being too costly for the right grade to do the job and it was decided to strengthen it externally which resulted in the ribs?

I understood that the different production runs were numbered 1 to 7 if I remember right, so that could be what you have (production run 4) which would be quite rare as they were supposed to have been reused and not go on a production engine if you see what I mean?

That is very interesting indeed because from aprox mid 1962, the Spanish series 2 sidecasings are all ribbed.
