I had to change my stator on the way to the Euro in Ireland and deliberately set the timing very retarded. It got me there and back but was seriously down on power. I have just changed the stator and strobbed the augusto to retard to 16 degrees. Took it for a spin and was amazed, 67.2 mph in 3rd and then hit 72 and still accelerating going up hill.....then the speed dropped very suddenly and I thought it had started to nip up. slowed down for the half mile home and it ran as normal. Took the plug out and that looked fine, a bit wet but then I had tootled for the last half mile.
I went out on it again today and it was flying again until I just got past 70mph again and it again lost power. I slowed down and stopped and it needed to be revved to keep it from stalling. Got it home and left it for a couple of hours and tried to re-start it. It took a bit of kicking and then backfired. Tried again and it started but didn't want to tick over.
I thought it might be a sheered woodruff key as I couln't remember giving it a full tighten after the strobbing, so whipped the flywheel off but the key was fine (the nut was definately not torqued up though
